Shillong, August 11: The Meghalaya Schools Welfare Development Association–Central Body (MSWDA-CB) has urged Chief Minister Dr. Conrad K. Sangma to convene a meeting with the Association before Teachers’ Day on September 5, 2026, to discuss various issues concerning the welfare and development of schools across the State.
In a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister on August 11, the Association said several issues concerning schools in Meghalaya had been submitted to the Government on different occasions. It pointed out that its latest memorandum containing six critical issues was submitted on April 14, 2026.
The Association further stated that on July 8, 2026, it had submitted views, opinions and suggestions arising from consultative meetings held across the Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills.
According to the MSWDA-CB, a meeting of the Association held on August 8 thoroughly deliberated on the pending matters and resolved to continue pursuing them through dialogue, consultation and constructive engagement with the Government.
Among the major concerns raised by the Association, Financial Assistance/Grant-in-Aid to Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools remains one of its highest priorities, citing its direct impact on the quality, sustainability and effective functioning of educational institutions.
The Association said that despite its earlier request dated July 8, no meeting had been convened so far. It therefore requested the Chief Minister to hold a meeting with its representatives in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and senior officials of the Education Department at any convenient date before Teachers’ Day.
The Association also referred to an earlier meeting convened by the Deputy Chief Minister on May 4, 2026, in his office chamber in the presence of Vijay Kumar Mantri, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Education Department.
The MSWDA-CB said it remains committed to resolving the issues through mutual dialogue and consultation and expressed hope for the Chief Minister’s positive intervention. However, it stated that if its request remains unanswered or is not favourably considered, the Association may be compelled to take an appropriate further course of action as decided by its members.
