Shillong, January 19 : Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Sunday inaugurated a Khasi Traditional Mural at Rymbai Fuel Station, Mawlai Mawiong Rim, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun, one of the region’s most active youth organisations.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister lauded Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun for two decades of community service and leadership, describing it as a symbol of unity and youthful dynamism in Mawlai. “The youth are the most critical section of our society, and traditional organisations like the Seng Samlas play a vital role not only for the future but for the present progress of our state,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s commitment to empowering young people, the Chief Minister urged the youth to take full advantage of the state’s programmes and schemes aimed at skill-building, entrepreneurship, and employment. “The world today is highly competitive. While we have constitutional safeguards to protect our rights, we must not become complacent — we must prepare to compete with the best in the world,” he emphasised.
He expressed hope that the 20th anniversary celebration of Seng Samla Mawlai Pyllun would inspire youth across Meghalaya to take initiative and become catalysts for positive change.
The Chief Minister also noted that the newly inaugurated mural, which depicts elements of Khasi culture and tradition, will serve as both a visual landmark and a cultural welcome point for visitors entering Shillong.
During the event, representatives from the Dorbar Shnong and Seng Samla organisations also submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister, highlighting key concerns and developmental needs of the Mawlai area.
