Shillong, November 9: We had two absolutely fantastic semifinals in the Meghalaya Women’s State League 2025 on Saturday that saw Na Rympei Football Academy and Jakrem SC book their places in the title match to be played on 12 November.
Jakrem overturned a one goal deficit to beat Laitkor SC 2-1 at the SSA Stadium, while Na Rympei sailed past Pay For Right Football Academy 4-1 at the SAI NEHU campus, two fine advertisements for women’s football in Meghalaya.
Both matches were something of an upset as Laitkor (from the Shillong Sports Association) had been indomitable so far, winning all of their matches through the group stage. Jakrem (Mawkyrwat District Sports Association), meanwhile, had finished second in Group B.
PFR (Shillong SA) and Na Rympei (Ri-Bhoi DSA) had both met in the group stage, which PFR had won 2-1 on 6 October. These two teams and Laitkor were all clustered in Group A.
Yesterday, however, Na Rympei put aside that earlier hiccup as they dominated the entire match against PFR. Pynhun Shulet (15′, 48′) and Player of the Match Tracy Rympei (50′, 88′) scored for Na Rympei but, crucially, the midfield and defence were able to ensure that PFR’s dangerous striker Nisilia Majaw did not get much of the ball. Although Nisilia did manage a lovely goal of her own in the 73rd minute, it was from a direct free-kick, not open play.
Over at the SSA Stadium, Laitkor’s goal machine Iaraplang Nongrum was also kept quiet by a Jakrem defence that had to work overtime.
In the end, it was Inrila-i-dor Khongthaw (28′) who scored first for Laitkor before Player of the Match Sunalinda Iawren (55′) equalised and Iaphisha Marbaniang (90′) pulled the winner out of the bag.
It has been a sensational first season of the MWSL and these semifinals were proof of that. What the final – on 12 November at 5pm – has in store is anyone’s guess!
