Shillong, June 5: My Bharat Shillong on Thursday organised a plantation drive at Mawryngkneng as part of the nationwide observance of World Environment Day 2026, reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation and community participation.
The initiative brought together local residents, youth volunteers, community leaders and representatives of My Bharat Shillong, who joined hands to plant a variety of indigenous and environmentally beneficial saplings in designated areas across the locality.
The plantation drive aimed to enhance the region’s green cover, promote ecological balance and encourage greater public involvement in environmental protection efforts.
Speaking on the occasion, organisers highlighted the significance of World Environment Day as a reminder of the collective responsibility shared by individuals and communities to safeguard natural resources for future generations.
The programme also served as a platform to raise awareness about pressing environmental challenges and the need for adopting sustainable and environmentally responsible practices in everyday life.
