NEIGRIHMS celebrates World Health Day along with Swachhata Pakhwada

Shillong, April 07 : North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), today celebrated the World Health Day as a part of ongoing ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’. NEIGRIHMS organised a poster competition to commemorate the World Health Day on the theme “Together for Health, Stand with Science”. Around 25 participants including Medical & Nursing students, staff from various sections and family members of the employees of NEIGRIHMS participated enthusiastically to mark the occasion with their views expressed through art.

In addition, NEIGRIHMS also conducted a Health Camp at St. George School, Nongmensong, Shillong in observance of World Health Day intending to promote health sensitive issues among school going children between 12 to 16 years. NEIGRIHMS doctors discussed key topics on the importance of One Health-Balance between plant health, animal health & human health, role of science in promoting and improving public health, importance of physical activity and balanced diet, the harmful effects of junk food, ways to restrict ‘screen time’ which is an identified risk, and awareness about HPV vaccination among school children. A total of almost 100 students from class 9 and class 10 attended the session.

NEIGRIHMS is celebrating ‘Swachhata Pakhwada’ from 1st to 15th of April 2026, a fortnight long national cleanliness campaign initiated by the Government of India under the Swachh Bharat Mission to promote cleanliness and hygiene. Various events including the Swachhata Pledge ceremony, cleaning of the hospital and campus area, health camps, Swachhata Conference and community awareness programs are being organised during the fortnight long period to increase awareness about Shramdaan, cleanliness and hygiene promotion in the hospital as well as the community. NEIGRIHMS faculty, Staff, students and sanitation staff are actively involved in making this event a grand success to promote the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Earlier, during the Swachhata Pledge ceremony Director NEIGRIHMS, Prof. Nalin Mehta appreciated the efforts of the entire NEIGRIHMS fraternity in promoting a culture of clean and hygienic NEIGRIHMS and stated that the Swachhata Pakhwada was a vital reminder of our shared responsibility to ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and a healthy environment within our institution and beyond as we are firmly committed to upholding the principles of sanitation, waste management, and public health in alignment with the Swachh Bharat Mission. He implored upon all to reaffirm their dedication to these values and work collectively towards a healthier nation. He was confident that with our collective efforts and awareness strategies focused not only for the staff but also for the patients, visitors and school children will surely reduce infection rates, enhance early recovery of patients and promote a healthy lifestyle & attitude in the community.
