NEW YEAR’S DAY SEES STABBING, APPREHENSIONS, AND ASSAULT IN SHILLONG

Shillong, January 03 : New Year’s Day in Shillong saw a series of unrelated incidents, including a stabbing, the apprehension of four Bangladeshi nationals, and a suspected assault.

  • Jhalupara Market Stabbing: At approximately 10:30 PM on January 1st, Deva Kharkongor (27 years old) was stabbed by unknown individuals at Jhalupara Market. He sustained injuries and was initially taken to Civil Hospital, Shillong, before being referred to NEIGRIHMS for further treatment.
  • Apprehension of Bangladeshi Nationals: Acting on intelligence inputs, police conducted a check at the Old Anjalee Petrol Pump in Shillong on January 1st. They intercepted a tourist taxi (ML-05X-6502) driven by T.N. Sohshang and apprehended four Bangladeshi nationals: Akhtar Sheikh, Rupa Begum, Raju Ali (60 years old), and Taijul Islam (27 years old). Investigations revealed that they had illegally crossed into India at Nongjri village (East Khasi Hills) with the intention of traveling to Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Nongmensong Market Suspected Assault: Chaman Barma verbally reported that on the evening of January 1st, Manoj Sharma (31 years old) was found unconscious at Nongmensong Market, Shillong. It is suspected that Sharma was assaulted by unknown individuals. He was subsequently taken to Civil Hospital, Shillong.
