Shillong, May 23: The National Institute of Fashion Technology successfully organised its Graduation Show 2026 on Friday, celebrating the academic achievements, creativity and professional accomplishments of graduating students across multiple disciplines. The event served as a platform to showcase the culmination of years of academic learning, creative exploration and industry engagement undertaken by the students of NIFT Shillong. The exhibition reflected diverse design perspectives, professional exposure and practical experiences gained through 16-week graduation projects and collaborations with leading organisations and professionals from across the country.
Speaking at the event, Frederick Roy Kharkongor stressed the importance of nurturing creative talent and strengthening collaboration between education, industry and regional development through innovation and entrepreneurship. He appreciated the blend of craft, culture and heritage displayed during the programme and expressed satisfaction over the growing collaboration between the Government of Meghalaya and NIFT Shillong under the leadership of Dr. Brijesh Deore.
Prof. Nalini Prava Tripath highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership, entrepreneurship and innovation in shaping future creative professionals. Dr. Brijesh Deore said the Graduation Show reflected the institute’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation and industry-oriented learning. He congratulated the graduating students and wished them success in their future careers.
Various academic departments presented projects and collections highlighting creativity, sustainability, craftsmanship, research and industry engagement across different domains of fashion and design.
The Department of Fashion Communication organised its showcase under the theme “Communique”, with 23 students presenting projects in branding, visual design, photography, digital communication, spatial experiences and interdisciplinary creative practices.
The Department of Fashion & Lifestyle Accessory Design showcased the work of 20 graduating students who completed projects in collaboration with leading organisations and brands across India.
The Department of Textile Design presented projects by 25 graduating students, highlighting innovation, sustainability and contemporary textile practices through collaborations with prominent companies and design houses.
The Department of Fashion Management Studies marked the successful completion of the Master of Fashion Management programme by 22 students, whose projects focused on areas including fashion retail, merchandising, marketing, e-commerce, sourcing and supply chain management.
Meanwhile, the Department of Fashion Design showcased the work of 30 graduating students, including six design collections and 24 graduation projects reflecting contemporary aesthetics, craftsmanship and industry relevance. Several students also secured placements and professional engagements with leading fashion brands and designers.
Teachers and students from Hill View Secondary School and Seven Set Secondary School attended the programme as part of NIFT Shillong’s outreach initiative aimed at promoting awareness about design education and career opportunities in the creative industry.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from industry professionals, academicians, alumni and guests, celebrating emerging design leadership and innovation from Northeast India.
