Shillong, April 26: East Khasi Hills Police conducted a special night-time traffic enforcement drive across Shillong city during the intervening night of April 25 and 26, detecting 194 violations and imposing fines amounting to ₹2,46,000.
The drive, carried out under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, along with SP (City/Traffic) and Additional SP Traffic, covered three key sectors—Sadar, Laitumkhrah and Lumdiengjri. It aimed to strengthen traffic enforcement, improve road discipline and enhance public safety, particularly during late hours when violations are more frequent.
Police focused on offences such as drunk driving, illegal modification of exhaust systems and vehicle lights, use of black-tinted glasses, and lack of valid documents under the Motor Vehicles Act.
More than 100 personnel were deployed for the operation, including officers from traffic branches and local police stations. Each naka point was supervised by Gazetted Officers to ensure effective and coordinated enforcement across the city.
Officials said the drive reflects the continued commitment of East Khasi Hills Police to deter traffic violations, promote compliance and ensure safer roads for the public.
