Shillong, March 26 : The Meghalaya government has assured that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the state at present, despite concerns arising from global uncertainties. Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Methodius Dkhar said the government is closely monitoring the situation, especially in light of ongoing global conflicts that could potentially impact fuel supply.
The Minister noted that while there are apprehensions of possible supply disruptions due to international developments, no such shortage has been confirmed in Meghalaya so far. He added that any impact would depend on how long the global situation persists. Dkhar stated that district administrations have not reported any shortage or hoarding of fuel. Deputy Commissioners and local authorities have been directed to keep strict vigilance on supply and distribution.
The government has instructed fuel dealers not to engage in hoarding or practices that could create artificial shortages, ensuring smooth availability for the public.
On the possibility of introducing an odd-even fuel rationing system, the Minister said such a measure is not required at present. However, the government may consider appropriate steps if any shortage arises in the future.
The state government reiterated its commitment to maintaining steady fuel supply and ensuring that the public does not face inconvenience.
