Shillong, October 18 : The pre-launch ceremony of the North East Integration Rally (NEIR) 2026 was held in Shillong on Friday evening, setting the stage for a landmark movement to foster cultural unity and regional collaboration among the northeastern states of India.
Organised by the NEIR 2026 organising committee, the event drew participation from government officials, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and civil society members who gathered to celebrate the region’s shared heritage and aspirations for growth.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Meghalaya Tourism Minister Timothy D. Shira lauded the organisers for spearheading the initiative and stressed the importance of working collectively for the progress of the Northeast. “It is important for all of us to work together to bring prosperity and development to our region,” said Shira, commending KRC Foundation Founder Biswadeep Gupta for conceptualising and leading the initiative.
Highlighting the Northeast’s vast potential, the minister emphasised the need to harness local talent and build stronger inter-state connections. He assured the support of the Tourism Department for the upcoming rally scheduled for January 2026, encouraging wide participation from across the region. “I hope people from every northeastern state will join hands to make this rally a grand success,” he added.
NEIR Patron and MLA A.L. Hek also addressed the gathering, stressing the rally’s importance in promoting mutual understanding and solidarity among the northeastern states.
Speakers including Joydeep Gupta, Co-Chairman of FICCI Assam State Council; Prof. (Dr.) Sukamal Deb; and Col. Shanti Singh (Retd) shared insights on regional cooperation, economic empowerment, and the role of youth in shaping the region’s future.
Delivering the keynote address, Biswadeep Gupta outlined NEIR’s mission, detailing upcoming campaigns, outreach programmes, and cultural initiatives that aim to promote unity, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange across the Northeast.
The evening featured a cultural segment that captured the vibrant essence of the Northeast. Singer K. Bobin from Imphal performed the NEIR theme song, receiving thunderous applause from the audience for symbolising the emotional and cultural bonds uniting the region. Adding to the evening’s charm, youth artists from the Meghalaya Grassroots Music Project (MGMP) showcased their musical talents, reflecting the state’s growing creative energy.
The MEBAAI Group also presented the detailed programme for the Meghalaya chapter of the NEIR, outlining the events and activities planned in the state.
Earlier, members of the NEIR organising committee met Minister Shira at the Meghalaya Secretariat to brief him on the initiative and its objectives. The minister described the rally as a “meaningful step toward strengthening bonds among the people of the Northeast.”
The North East Integration Rally, scheduled for January 2026, aims to serve as a platform for unity, collaboration, and cultural celebration. The rally will traverse multiple states, promoting shared heritage, inter-state cooperation, and regional development, while amplifying the collective voice and aspirations of the people of Northeast India.
