Resubelpara, July 30 : In a landmark moment for industrial development in the North East, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma today inaugurated the region’s largest bottling plant at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills. The state-of-the-art facility, set up by Varun Beverages Limited (PepsiCo), spans 37 acres and comes with an investment of ₹340 crore.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Minister hailed the project as a “blessing for the state,” adding that it would significantly boost employment and economic activity across the region.
The newly opened plant will employ around 500 staff members for production and distribution of various PepsiCo products, including fruit-based beverages. The Chief Minister noted that the facility will not only create direct employment but also generate ancillary business opportunities in housing, retail, and logistics for the local community.
The Mendipathar Industrial Area was originally conceptualized in the 1990s, but for over three decades, the region saw no major investments.
In a forward-looking announcement, the Chief Minister revealed that another industrial plant is near completion in the Tikrikilla–Bajengdoba region, with 90% of work already done.
CM Sangma also extended his gratitude to Varun Beverages Chairman Ravikant Jaipuria and Director Varun Jaipuria, commending their commitment to timely execution.
