North Liberty, O.M. Roy Memorial School ready for 65th Subroto Cup international tootball tournament

Shillong, August 27: The U-15 boys’ football team of North Liberty Higher Secondary School, West Jaintia Hills, and the U-17 boys’ team of O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School, East Khasi Hills, are set to represent Meghalaya at the 65th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026.

The U-15 tournament will be held in Bengaluru from September 1 to 9, while the U-17 tournament will take place in New Delhi from September 15 to 24.

Ahead of the teams’ departure, the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, organised a special send-off programme to extend its best wishes to the players and coaches. The teams were encouraged to perform well and bring laurels and honour to the state at the international-level tournament.

In the state-level Subroto Cup U-15 final held in Shillong, North Liberty Higher Secondary School defeated Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School 2-1. In the U-17 final, O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School defeated Wapung Higher Secondary School of East Jaintia Hills 3-0.

Sports Minister Wailadmiki Shylla attended the programme as the chief guest. Also present were Sports Director A. Nongbri, Deputy Director Paia War Nongbri, Assistant Director Khroobok Passah, District Sports Officers, coaches, players and others.

Shylla extended his best wishes to both teams and urged them to perform to the best of their abilities at the Subroto Cup tournaments in Bengaluru and New Delhi.
