Tura, September 2: The National People’s Party (NPP) on Wednesday felicitated newly elected Rajya Sabha MP James P.K. Sangma at a programme held in Tura.
The event was attended by NPP national president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, along with party functionaries, GHADC members and supporters.
During the programme, the Chief Minister was also felicitated for his leadership and guidance in facilitating amendments to introduce a separate electoral roll for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), as well as for what the party described as transformative interventions for the council’s growth and development.
The NPP also acknowledged Sangma’s contribution and the State Government’s initiative in securing the adoption of a resolution by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly opposing uranium mining in the State.
GHADC Chief Executive Member Dhormonath Sangma, Deputy CEM Stevie Marak, Executive Members and MDCs were also felicitated for passing the separate electoral roll and for introducing digital initiatives aimed at improving the functioning of the council.
These initiatives include streamlining tax collection, enabling online issuance of Trading Licences and introducing Service Rules in the GHADC.
Party leaders said the measures were aimed at improving administrative efficiency and strengthening governance in the autonomous district council.
The felicitation programme was attended by NPP functionaries, MDCs and party supporters.
