One Killed, Two Injured in Suspected Group Attack in East Khasi Hills

Shillong, July 27: One man was killed and two others injured in a suspected group attack reported at different locations in East Khasi Hills late Sunday night, police said. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the first injured man was found at around 10.30 pm near the BSF Battalion gate with stab wounds. BSF personnel shifted him to NEIGRIHMS, where he is undergoing treatment.

Police were informed the following morning about the body of another man found at Mawkasiang with multiple stab injuries. The deceased was identified as Shanbor Rani. The body was sent for post-mortem examination, while a case was registered and an investigation launched. A third man, believed to have been with the other two, was later traced at Mawtawar with injuries and admitted to hospital.

According to the SP, preliminary information suggested that all three men had been together before the incidents occurred. Police said Rani had previous criminal records and had earlier been involved in several cases, including murder and offences registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

The motive behind the attack has not yet been established. Police are examining different possibilities, including whether the incident was connected to drugs or a personal vendetta. A vehicle recovered from the scene was confirmed to have belonged to the deceased. Further investigation is underway.
