Shillong, September 11 : The Department of Textiles & C&RD, Government of Meghalaya, represented the state at the recently held G20 International Craft Bazar on the sidelines of the recently concluded G20 summit at New Delhi. The department showcased its two brands, “Ryndia” and “Tribal Weaves”, as well as handicrafts from the Tourism Department’s Meghalayan Age.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Meghalaya stall and interacted with the team. He expressed keen interest in the organically produced, ethically sourced Meghalaya Eri Ryndia, which he said syncs with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of climate action, women’s empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods.
F.R. Kharkongor, Commissioner & Secretary, Textiles & C&RD, led the Textiles & C&RD teams initially for coordination purposes. Textiles Department officials represented the state at the G20 exhibitions.
The Meghalaya stall was well-received by visitors, who appreciated the unique and beautiful handicrafts and textiles from the state. The stall also received positive feedback from the G20 delegates.
The participation of Meghalaya in the G20 International Craft Bazar was a great opportunity to showcase the state’s rich handicrafts and textiles to a global audience. It also helped to promote the state as a tourist destination.
