Baghmara, February 26 : A Special POCSO Court in South Garo Hills has convicted a man in a child sexual assault case and sentenced him to rigorous imprisonment.
According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, South Garo Hills, the case (Baghmara Women PS Case No. 15(8)2019) was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act and investigated by WPSI M.K. Sangma.
After completion of trial in the case titled State of Meghalaya vs. Chichim D. Shira, the court of Febroneous Silkam Sangma, Special Judge (POCSO), South Garo Hills, found the accused guilty of kidnapping, aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a child, penetrative sexual assault and rape.
The offences were punishable under Sections 361/366/375(a) read with Sections 376(2)(n)/376AB of the IPC, 1860 and Sections 3(a)/5(l)(m)/6 of the POCSO Act, 2012.
On February 26, 2026, the court sentenced the convict to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000 under Section 366 IPC, with an additional three months’ imprisonment in default of fine; and 25 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,00,000 under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, with an additional six months’ imprisonment in default of payment.
