Shillong, March 02 : Shillong Lajong FC began their Indian Football League campaign with a hard-fought 1–1 draw against Rajasthan United FC at the SSA Stadium, Polo Grounds, on Sunday evening.
Backed by tremendous home support, Lajong started brightly and showed attacking intent from the outset. The home side took the lead through Everbrightson Sana Mylliempdah in the 15th minute, sending the crowd into celebration and setting the tone for an intense contest.
Rajasthan United FC responded strongly in the second half and managed to find the equaliser in the 53rd minute through Abhishek Ambekar, ensuring both teams went toe-to-toe in a competitive second half. Despite creating several promising opportunities, Lajong were unable to find the decisive breakthrough as the points were shared at full-time.
The match showcased the resilience and fighting spirit of the young all-Indian Lajong squad, proudly representing Meghalaya and the North East region in the newly rebranded league.
Speaking after the match, the Head Coach appreciated the players’ effort and composure, while also thanking the fans for turning up in large numbers and playing their part as the 12th Man.
Shillong Lajong FC will now shift focus to their next fixture against Real Kashmir FC on March 8 at 6:30 pm in SSA Stadium, Polo.
