Nongpoh, July 19 : Ri Bhoi District Police successfully foiled a gold smuggling attempt on July 19, 2023. The police intercepted a Volkswagen car with registration number AS 01 DT 7519 at the Kyrdeng Police checkpoint. The occupants of the car, Vinod Kumar Sharma from Jaipur and Lalshyam Sharma from Rajasthan, were detained.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, the police found six gold biscuits, each weighing ten tolas, in Vinod Kumar Sharma’s possession. The confiscated gold was estimated to be worth 35 lakh Indian rupees. Two mobile phones were also seized from the vehicle.
The police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the smuggling operation. The two suspects have been arrested and will be produced in court.
