Shillong, February 6 : Meghalaya Police are investigating a series of crimes reported across the state, including vehicle thefts, arson, fraud, and cattle smuggling.
East Khasi Hills:
- Motorcycle Theft: David Stone Marbañiang reported the theft of his motorcycle (ML-05AD-1034) from Mawlai Nonglum Khliehshnong on the morning of February 1st.
- Forest Fire: The Range Forest Officer of East Khasi Hills & Ri-Bhoi (T) Division reported a forest fire in the Mawrympheit Umïew area of Maw-U-Sam, Smit, on the morning of February 2nd. Approximately 10,000 trees, valued at around ₹4.7 lakhs, were damaged. Three individuals, Shandrasing Khongsngi (52 years old), Skhemboklang Rynjah (30 years old), and Shabistar Kharkongor (40 years old), were apprehended in connection with the incident.
- Motorcycle Theft: Wanshai Damiat Jyrwa reported the theft of his motorcycle (ML-05S-0770) from Lumdiengsoh, Motinagar, on the night of February 1st.
- Equipment Theft: The Assistant Manager of the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP), Power Grid, reported the theft of an ACSR wolf conductor from the Mawryngkneng SS store on the night of January 31st.
- Cattle Smuggling: On February 1st, BSF personnel detected movement of suspected cattle smugglers near Delsora village and Kyrdoh village. During searches, they recovered seven and thirty-two head of cattle, respectively, in these areas.
- Residential Burglary: Manish Chauhan reported a burglary at his residence in Mawpat, Circle-II, Shillong, on the evening of February 2nd. A laptop and ₹18,500 in cash were stolen.
South West Khasi Hills:
- Arson: Zandy Myrthong reported that unknown individuals set ablaze a jungle in Lum Niangram, Pyndenumjarain village, on January 25th, destroying approximately 7,000 tree saplings valued at around ₹4 lakhs.
West Garo Hills:
- Job Fraud: Two female residents from West Garo Hills lodged a joint complaint against Armo Sangma for allegedly cheating them of ₹1.82 lakh and ₹1.4 lakh, respectively, under the pretext of providing jobs in the Medical Department of Meghalaya. The complainants also stated that the accused forged a Call Letter from the Directorate of Health Services.
