Ampati, January 6 : Police in South West Garo Hills district recovered a cache of ammunition during a search operation conducted on Tuesday, officials said.
Acting on reliable source information, a joint team from Salmanpara Police Station and Ampati Police Station carried out the operation in a bamboo grove near Santogre village, under the jurisdiction of Salmanpara Police Station.
In a press communique, Superintendent of Police Vikash Varma, IPS, said the police team unearthed ammunition buried at the site and recovered 55 suspected live anti-aircraft rounds.
The recovered ammunition was seized on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses, following prescribed legal procedures. Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the ammunition and identify those involved.
Police appealed to the public to come forward with information about individuals involved in unlawful activities. Citizens may share inputs with the nearest police station, officials said, adding that informants’ identities will be kept confidential and a suitable reward will be provided.
