Police Seize 27.25 Kg of Ganja in South West Garo Hills; Two Arrested

Ampati, January 30 : In a significant anti-narcotics operation, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of South West Garo Hills Police intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Omni-E Van (Regn. No. ML-08-H-8546) near Garodoba OGC, along NH-12 Road, leading to the recovery of a large quantity of contraband substance suspected to be ganja (cannabis).

According to police reports, the vehicle was stopped after it developed a mechanical defect, prompting officers to carry out a routine inspection. Upon searching the vehicle, two blue plastic packets containing a suspicious substance were found.

A test using the Narcotic Drugs Detection Kit confirmed the substance as ganja, weighing 27.257 kilograms in total.

The police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the seizure: Jenobia Chuangku M. Sangma (31 years), son of Jarnash C. Marak, resident of Tura Reserve Gittim, PO & PS Araimile and Rakhil G. Momin (31 years), son of Late Brenathson M. Marak, resident of Agilanggre, PO & PS Araimile, West Garo Hills, Meghalaya.

The operation was conducted by the SWGH ANTF team in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring full compliance with procedural and legal norms.

Police confirmed that a case has been registered and legal action has been initiated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
