Ri Bhoi, March 18 ; Ri Bhoi Police have dismantled a human trafficking network, arresting a Bangladeshi national and two Indian citizens, following a successful operation near Byrnihat.
Acting on credible information, a naka checking was established near Byrnihat Outpost (OP) on March 18, 2025, at approximately 4:10 PM. Officers intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS-01-FJ-4645, carrying Jannati Sheikh (26) from Jasor, Khulna, Bangladesh, and the driver, Raushan Khan, from Rangapani, Barpeta, Assam.
During the operation, Jannati Sheikh was found in possession of a forged Indian Aadhaar Card. Upon interrogation, both Sheikh and Khan confessed to being part of an organized network involved in trafficking individuals between Bangladesh and India for monetary gain, without valid documentation.
A case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station vide Case No. 39(03)2025 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Foreigners Act 1946. The arrested individuals are being interrogated, and efforts are underway to trace forward and backward links related to the trafficking network.
Following further interrogation, Ri Bhoi police have arrested another individual, Balajied Khongsun (27), from Wahlyngkhat, Pynursla, East Khasi Hills District.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to dismantle the entire trafficking operation and apprehend all individuals involved.
