Nongpoh, March 26 : Ri Bhoi Police have successfully apprehended 12 Bangladeshi nationals attempting to illegally enter India, dismantling a significant cross-border smuggling operation. The operation, triggered by intelligence regarding illegal entry facilitated by Sukur Janab Shaikh, resulted in multiple arrests and the seizure of forged documents.
Initially, Ri Bhoi police intercepted a Tourist Sumo vehicle, registration number AS-01-EC-3528, at the Byrnihat Police Outpost, arresting nine Bangladeshi nationals, including two minors. The arrested individuals were identified as Kakali Sardar (36), Hirina Dili Mulla (30), Unjilla Sadar (32), Rabia Begum (37), Panna Kamal Hussain (42), Poppy Hasu Mollah (26), Sonia Shaikh (24), Sobha Islam (28), and Saja Uddin Sk (26), along with the two minors.
Following these arrests, a detailed investigation was launched under the direction of Ri Bhoi Superintendent of Police V.S. Rathore. With assistance from Assam Police, authorities successfully apprehended Sukur Janab Shaikh, the primary suspect facilitating the illegal entry.
During the operation, police discovered forged documents, including Aadhaar Cards, PAN Cards, and other fake identification papers, in the possession of the detainees. The individuals had planned to cross the International Border via Dawki early in the morning, but their plans were thwarted by the Ri Bhoi Police.
A case has been registered at Nongpoh Police Station under Case No. 42(03)2025, with charges filed under Sections 61(2), 319(2), 336(3), 340(2), 152, 212(b) of the BNS, and Sections 14(c), 14A(b), and 14C of the Foreigner Act. The investigation into this illegal immigration case is ongoing.
