Richbhalang Kharshiing secures IIT Bombay CSE seat after stellar JEE advanced performance

Shillong, June 18: In a remarkable achievement that has brought pride to Meghalaya, Richbhalang Kharshiing has secured admission to the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay for a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) degree in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) after excelling in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2026.

Richbhalang achieved an impressive All India Rank (AIR) 15 in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and AIR 2626 in the Open category, earning a place in one of the most competitive and sought-after engineering programmes in the country.

His admission to IIT Bombay marks the culmination of an outstanding academic year, highlighted by exceptional performances across multiple examinations. In JEE Mains 2026, he secured a remarkable 99.72 percentile, while also scoring 96 per cent in the CBSE Class 12 Board Examinations.

The young achiever attributed his success to disciplined preparation, conceptual understanding of subjects, and the constant support of his family throughout his academic journey.

Richbhalang is the son of Shri Saldrin Kharbuli, an officer of the Indian Defence Service of Engineers (IDSE), and Smt. Lapyntngen M. Kharshiing. Expressing their joy over their son’s accomplishment, his parents described the achievement as a dream come true.

“Richbhalang has always been a deeply focused and hardworking boy. Getting into IIT Bombay for Computer Science is a dream come true, and seeing his consistency pay off makes us incredibly grateful and overjoyed,” they said.

His brother, Austin, who stood by him throughout his preparation, also shared in the family’s celebrations and pride.
