Jowai, March 23 : College Week 2026 at Kiang Nangbah Government College was formally inaugurated on March 21 by Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui in the presence of the principal, faculty members, officials from the Information and Public Relations (IPR) Department, and a large gathering of students.
The programme, organised by the Department of English, began with a welcome address by the Students’ Union president followed by a cultural performance. During the event, the Students’ Union submitted a memorandum outlining key concerns related to the institution and student community. Students also presented vibrant performances aligned with the theme “Beyond Books,” reflecting creativity and enthusiasm.
Addressing the gathering, Lahkmen Rymbui commended the students for their dedication and sense of responsibility, noting that the college has earned recognition across the state due to the collective efforts of students and faculty. He assured that the issues raised in the memorandum would be taken up with relevant authorities to find both immediate and long-term solutions.
Highlighting recent developments in the education sector, the minister spoke about the introduction of Community Integrated Skills Learning from Class VI onwards, approved in January 2026. The initiative aims to blend traditional knowledge with practical skills to promote self-reliance among students. He also pointed to the government’s efforts to expand higher education, including increasing the number of government colleges, improving access, and enhancing scholarship schemes.
Rymbui urged students to focus on self-discovery, develop their talents, and adopt a flexible mindset to adapt to changing times. He also encouraged them to contribute towards building a responsible and united society.
On the occasion, the minister released official jerseys for various college departments and inspected ongoing infrastructure projects, including new building construction, the library, and other facilities.
The event marked the beginning of a week-long celebration aimed at fostering academic, cultural, and extracurricular excellence among students.
