Jowai, March 15: All schools, colleges and educational institutions in West Jaintia Hills district will remain closed on March 16, 2026, following a weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall.
According to an order issued by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds of 30–40 kmph and heavy rain at isolated places in the district on March 16.
The district administration stated that the expected weather conditions may affect the functioning and safety of schools, colleges and other educational institutions in the district.
“In view of the weather warning, it has been decided that all schools, colleges and educational institutions, both government and private, in West Jaintia Hills district will remain closed on March 16, 2026,” the order stated.
The directive was issued by Deputy Commissioner A.K. Singh, IAS, who also serves as the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai.
