Shillong, October 13 : Meghalaya defeated Nagaland by five wickets and with an over to spare in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy plate group in Agartala today.
Meghalaya’s first three games were abandoned due to unfavourable weather conditions but today they put the disappointment of that behind them to take a solid victory.
The toss went Meghalaya’s way and they chose to field first. Nagaland batted the full 20 overs but managed a modest 74/7.
Solina Jaba starred with the ball, taking 3/14 in her allotted 4 overs. Rubi Chetri (1/10 in 3) and Debasmita Dutta (1/13 in 4) were Meghalaya’s other wicket-takers, while Najmeen Khatun top-scored with 19 for Nagaland.
In the chase Meghalaya lost a couple of wickets early but the reliable Debasmita steadied the ship with 31 from 47 deliveries; she hit three fours in her innings. Suriti Kumari Ray made 18 from 30 (2x4s) and together the pair put on 44 for the third wicket.
Meghalaya were then guided over the finish line with Rubi’s contribution of 16 not out from 21 balls and Debasmita was named the Player of the Match.
Meghalaya’s next fixture will be against Mizoram on Wednesday.
