Shillong, January 24 : Meghalaya police are investigating several crime incidents reported across the state, including thefts, attempted break-ins, border-related incidents, and an assault.
East Khasi Hills:
- Office Burglary: Mirlang Phanbuh reported a burglary at his office in Smit on January 22nd at approximately 6:15 AM. Goods valued at around ₹40,000 were stolen. The incident was captured on CCTV.
- Motorcycle Theft: Gilchrist Ch. Momin reported the theft of his motorcycle (ML-05AC-7576) from Dhankheti, Shillong, on the night of January 21-22.
- Attempted Vehicle Break-in and Arrest: Suman Paul and Sundar Gurung caught Agrirole Marweiñ (26 years old) attempting to break into their vehicles (a Maruti van ML-05G-2690 and a local taxi ML-05J-5618) at Mawbah Taxi Stand, Shillong, on January 22nd at approximately 12:30 AM. Police arrested the accused.
- Scooter Theft: Sunita Masih reported the theft of her scooter (ML-05Z-6194) from Polo, Shillong, on the night of January 21-22.
- Residential Burglary: Phulema Kharlyngdoh reported a burglary at her residence in Mawshut Madan Sohphoh village on the afternoon of January 21st. Three gold rings valued at approximately ₹2 lakh were stolen.
West Jaintia Hills:
- Cattle Recovery: On January 20th at approximately 8:25 PM, BSF personnel from BOP Sangkhat recovered eighteen head of unclaimed cattle near Border Pillar No. 1293/6-S.
- Border Interception: On January 20th at approximately 9 PM, police intercepted a Maruti car (ML-05N-3970) driven by Jowel Pasleiñ with four occupants. Two of the occupants, Hussain Ahmed (27 years old) and Md. Baiyojit Hussain (27 years old), both from Assam, could not produce valid nationality documents.
- Shooting Incident and Arrest: On January 22nd at approximately 7 PM, J. Lyngdoh (46 years old) reportedly shot Ram Sumer (54 years old) at Lapangap village. The victim was hospitalized. Police arrested the accused.
West Garo Hills:
- Motorcycle Lifter Apprehended: On the morning of January 23rd, police apprehended Jamesbond K. Marak, also known as Simon Momin (32 years old), from Kasikagra, Goalpara, Assam, in Tura. He is suspected of motorcycle theft.
