Shillong, January 10 : Meghalaya police are investigating a variety of criminal incidents reported in Shillong and Tura, ranging from business disputes and assaults to thefts and online impersonation.
- Fraud in Bypass Compensation Case : Three residents—Klian Khyllait, Bitinora Kharthangmaw, and Iaidrit Kharthangmaw—have filed a complaint at Sohiong Outpost (East Khasi Hills) alleging fraudulent activity related to compensation received for the Shillong Western Bypass construction.
The complainants allege that Phriden Sing Thabah and Rojen Khyllait persuaded them to sign blank cheques. The two individuals reportedly claimed that the cheques were necessary to withdraw a 10% portion of the compensation money from the complainants’ respective bank accounts to cover expenses related to securing the compensation.
The complainants recently discovered that significant sums of money had been withdrawn from their accounts without their knowledge or consent, leading them to file the complaint. Police are now investigating the allegations of fraud against Thabah and Khyllait. - Business Dispute (Shillong): David Kharsati filed a complaint against Anand Chhetri, an authorized representative of M/s Aimil Pharmaceutical. Kharsati alleges that Chhetri took materials worth approximately Rs. 2,13,265 from his firm and has failed to make payment despite repeated reminders.
- Assault (Shillong): On January 8th at around 9 PM, Kenny Jyrwa (29 years old) was assaulted by unidentified individuals at Rilbong Laban, Shillong. He sustained injuries and was admitted to Civil Hospital, Shillong.
- Online Impersonation (Shillong): A Shillong resident reported that on December 20, 2024, a fake profile was created on the Bharat Matrimony platform using his photograph without his consent or knowledge. The profile was created under the name “Dr. Bibhan B.”
- Residential Burglary (Shillong): D Surong reported that her residence at Lumjingsuk Madanrting, Shillong, was broken into on the night of January 8th. The intruders stole a TV set.
- Loan Dispute (Tura): Silverth M Sangma of Tura, West Garo Hills, filed a complaint stating that on July 13, 2024, Jhim Carter M Sangma of Tura and Bokar Poramanik of Assam borrowed Rs. 1.5 lakh from him with a promise to repay the amount plus 20% interest. The borrowers have allegedly failed to repay the loan.
