Shillong, August 4: A Special POCSO Court in Shillong has convicted a man in connection with a 2015 case involving the sexual assault of a seven-year-old girl and sentenced him to imprisonment.
According to a press release issued by the East Khasi Hills Police, an FIR was lodged at Madanrting Police Station on September 28, 2015, alleging that Abdul Khudus had sexually molested the complainant’s seven-year-old granddaughter. Based on the complaint, Madanrting P.S. Case No. 117(09)2015 was registered under Section 506 IPC read with Section 8 of the POCSO Act.
Police arrested the accused during the investigation, and a charge sheet was subsequently filed on April 9, 2016 under the relevant provisions of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
On July 28, 2026, the Court of M.K. Lyngdoh, Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, convicted Abdul Khudus in Special (POCSO) Case No. 21 of 2016. The court sentenced the convict to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of ₹20,000 for the offence under Section 8 of the POCSO Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional six months’ imprisonment.
The court also awarded two years’ imprisonment under Section 506 Part I of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). As the convict has already undergone two months and one day in custody, he will serve the remaining sentence of two years, nine months and twenty-nine days in jail.
