Shillong Customs Destroys ₹8.5 Crore Worth of Seized Drugs

Shillong, January 22 : In a major operation demonstrating its commitment to combating drug trafficking, the Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive), Shillong, destroyed seized drugs with an estimated street value of ₹8.5 crore. The destruction was carried out as part of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Drug Disposal Campaign.

The incineration took place on January 22, 2025, under the supervision of the Drug Disposal Committee, headed by Shri Spencer M. Mylliem, Joint Commissioner, Customs NER, and comprising officers from Customs and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The process was conducted in a secure and environmentally responsible manner to ensure the complete and permanent removal of the illegal substances from circulation.

This action by Customs reinforces its dedication to fighting drug abuse and trafficking, contributing to public welfare and national well-being.
