Shillong, July 25 : The East Khasi Hills District administration in Shillong has announced the implementation of new “On-Street Parking” zones, effective August 25, 2025, to streamline traffic and parking in the Sadar Traffic Area. The move comes as part of recommendations from the Zonal Task Force of the Sadar Traffic Branch.
According to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District, bearing No. M.18/ZTF/10/2025/179 and dated July 25, 2025, the designation of these new parking areas is in pursuance of a Government Order (No.UAU.88/2024/583- A) dated June 2, 2025, issued by the Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Urban Affairs Department.
The rates for parking will be as per a Government Notification issued by the Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya, Urban Affairs Department (Letter No. UAU.88/2024/595, dated June 26, 2025).
On-Street Parking (Charges Per Hour)
High Demand Zone (Commercial Areas) : Two-wheeler – ₹20, Four-wheeler – ₹40
Low Demand Zone (Non-commercial areas) : Two-wheeler – ₹15, Four-wheeler – ₹30

Details of Proposed Additional Parking Zones:
A separate attachment provides a list of additional proposed parking areas, outlining specific road stretches, locations, and the type and number of vehicles to be accommodated:
- Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road:
- After Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar (RHS): On-street parking for 15 private two-wheelers, parked at a 45-degree angle.
- After Syndicate Bus Stand on the LHS (from Vijay Electrical to Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar): On-street parking for 25 private two-wheelers, parked at a 45-degree angle.
- Between the entry and exit gate of Syndicate Bus Stand: On-street parallel parking for 2 local taxi embarkment & disembarkment vehicles.
- Them Mawlong:
- In front of Lits N Lights Shop: On-street parallel parking for 2 tourist vehicles.
These new regulations aim to improve traffic flow and provide designated parking spots, addressing the growing vehicle population in Shillong’s Sadar area. Residents and commuters are advised to familiarize themselves with the new parking zones and regulations once they become effective next month.
