Shillong, March 25 : Kluston Ryntathiang has been convicted and sentenced to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment by the Special Judge (POCSO), East Khasi Hills, Shillong, in connection with Laban PS Case No. 128(12) 2015. The verdict, delivered by Judge Swapna G. Momin on March 11, 2025, found Ryntathiang guilty under Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The court sentenced Ryntathiang to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 for the offense under the POCSO Act. In default of the fine, he will serve an additional two months of simple imprisonment.
Additionally, he was sentenced to three years of imprisonment and fined Rs. 5,000 for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the IPC. Failure to pay this fine will result in an extra month of simple imprisonment.
The case, which involved serious allegations of sexual assault against a minor and subsequent threats, was thoroughly investigated by Inspector Phrianglin Syiem, currently serving as Reserve Inspector at Police Reserve, Shillong.
“This conviction sends a strong message that crimes against children will be met with the full force of the law,” stated Vivek Syiem, IPS, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong, in a press release. He praised the diligent work of the investigating officer in ensuring justice was served.
