Shillong Plagued by Thefts and Break-Ins

Shillong, March 3 : A series of crimes, including theft, burglary, have been reported across Meghalaya in recent days.

  • Shop Burglary: E.M. Syiem reported that unidentified individuals broke into her shop in Madanrting, Shillong, on February 27th, stealing grocery items worth ₹9,510. The incident was captured on CCTV.
  • School Burglary: The Head Master of Borsing Secondary School in Nongpyndeng (WKH) reported a missing UPS from the computer room on February 26th.
  • Mobile Phone Theft: S. M. Marak of Sonamite village (SWGH) reported that an individual stole his mobile phone under the pretense of purchasing it.
  • EMI Fraud: A Tura resident reported being defrauded by a woman who used his mobile number to purchase a phone on finance but refused to pay the EMIs.
  • LPG Cylinder Theft: D. Jyrwa lodged a complaint that on February 28, 2025 around 6.04 am, unknown miscreant(s) broke into her residence at Wahheh, Mawpat Circle-III, Shillong and stole two LPG cylinders.
  • Residential Burglary: D. Nongrum reported a break-in at his residence in Langkyrding, Nongmensong, Shillong, where a gold ring, mobile phone, and other items were stolen.

Police are investigating all reported incidents.
