Shillong, March 22 : Shillong Traffic Police (STP) have issued a strong advisory urging parents and guardians to ensure children wear helmets while riding as pillion passengers or standing in front on two-wheelers, citing serious safety concerns.

The advisory, issued by the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, highlights the alarming trend of children being transported without any head protection, exposing them to significant risks of injury or fatality in case of accidents. Parents and guardians are strictly urged to ensure their children wear helmets. Failure to comply will result in penalties as per the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

“In the interest of child safety,” the advisory states, “Shillong Traffic Police (STP) strictly urges all parents and guardians ferrying children on two-wheelers to ensure that the child wears a helmet.”
