Shillong Traffic Police Launch Awareness Drive to Curb 2-Wheeler Violations

Shillong, August 1 : In response to a rise in Motor Vehicle (MV) Act violations and a growing number of citizen complaints, the Shillong Traffic Police have initiated an awareness drive targeting two-wheeler riders. The campaign focuses on educating riders about the dangers of reckless riding, haphazard overtaking, and the importance of using proper number plates.

The Traffic Police are appealing to all two-wheeler riders to adhere strictly to traffic rules to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow. The key points of the appeal are:

  1. Avoid Crossing Center Lines: Riders are urged to refrain from crossing the center line to overtake other vehicles, especially during traffic jams. This practice is a major cause of congestion and accidents.
  2. Follow Traffic Rules Diligently: All riders are reminded to follow traffic regulations, signs, and speed limits.
  3. Use Proper Number Plates: Riders must conform to the specified standards for number plates, which include regulations on size, color, and font. Improper plates can lead to difficulties in identifying vehicles and are a violation of the MV Act.

This awareness campaign is part of the police’s ongoing effort to improve road discipline and safety for all commuters in Shillong.
