Shillong’s Umshyrpi Bridge: Night Closures Begin Tomorrow for 4 Days

Shillong, June 11 : Commuters in Shillong will face temporary traffic diversions at Umshyrpi Bridge due to ongoing construction work.

The vehicular movement through the bridge will be restricted for a period of four days, starting from June 12th to June 15th, 2025.

The restrictions will be in effect daily from 10:00 PM until 5:00 AM of the next day.

The East Khasi Hills Police, through a press release issued by Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, IPS, announced the following diversion routes:

  • For vehicles proceeding from Upper Shillong towards Umshyrpi bridge – MES Point: Traffic will be diverted at 5th Mile, Upper Shillong towards Pomlakrai – Laitkor – Madanrting – Laitumkhrah and beyond.
  • For vehicles proceeding from Lumdiengjri area / Old Cherra towards Upper Shillong via Umshyrpi bridge: These vehicles will take the route from Laitumkhrah – Madanrting – Laitkor – Pomlakrai – 5th Mile, Upper Shillong and beyond.

Emergency service vehicles will, however, be allowed to ply during the restricted hours.

The inconvenience caused to the public is highly regretted by the authorities.
