SPECIAL ACCOMMODATION FOR STUDENT WHO STUDY IN MANIPUR UNIVERSITY

Shillong, August 7 : Amid the ongoing unrest in Manipur, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has written a letter to Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla, the Vice-Chancellor of North Eastern Hills University, seeking special assistance for Meghalayan students studying at Manipur University.

Khasi Students’ Union’s, Chairman Education Cell, Pynkmenlang Sanmiet, and Secretary Education Cell, Shellkitbok Kharbani articulately expressed concerns stating that these students from Meghalaya suffer intense fear, instability, and psychological distress. In light of the ongoing turbulence, students’ education has been severely disrupted, and the idea of returning home has become a formidable task.

The Union has appealed for ‘special consideration’ for these students’ admission to the North Eastern Hills University whose academic progress is hindered due to the conflict. It has urged the University either to permit these students to continue their studies in this university or make special seat assignments based on the university’s discretion.

KSU’s appeal also insists on the University extending every possible assistance to these students who are facing an uncertain future due to the persistent unrest in Manipur.

The letter of appeal has been shared with Shri Rakkam A Sangma, Meghalaya’s Education Minister, for further necessary action. The Union awaits a response, hopeful that their appeal can bring some relief to the distressed students.
