Shillong, December 30 : In view of the upcoming New Year celebrations, the Shillong Traffic Police (STP) will conduct vigorous checking drives across Shillong city to curb drunk driving, dangerous driving and other Motor Vehicles Act violations, according to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills.
Police said the intensified enforcement will be carried out throughout Shillong, including bypasses, highways and locality roads, to ensure public safety during the festive period.
The advisory warned that anyone found driving under the influence of alcohol beyond the permissible limit (30 mg per 100 ml of blood) will be punishable under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, which carries a fine of ₹10,000, or imprisonment up to six months, or both.
Urging motorists to act responsibly, police appealed to the public to drive safely and not drink and drive, stressing that road safety is crucial for one’s own protection as well as that of others.
