SPECIAL SUMMARY REVISION OF PHOTO ELECTORAL ROLLS LAUNCHED IN MEGHALAYA

Shillong, October 27 : The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, Shillong, in collaboration with the Office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong, today organized the State Level Function for the launching of Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls (SSRPPER) with reference to 01/01/2024 as the qualifying date, at the Conference Room, DC’s Office, East Khasi Hills, Shillong.

Addressing the function, Dr. B.D.R Tiwari, Chief Electoral Officer, informed that the SSRPPER is being conducted to update and purify the electoral rolls by deleting the names of dead and ineligible voters, and adding the names of eligible voters who have attained the age of 18 years on or before January 1, 2024.

Dr. Tiwari also called on political parties to play an active role in the State Level Function for the launching of Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls by raising objections on the inclusion of non-bonafide citizens in the electoral rolls, if any. He said that political parties are the main and important stakeholders in the whole electoral process, and their cooperation is essential for the smooth conduct of polls.

The Chief Electoral Officer, along with East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, R.M Kurbah, today handed over the draft photo electoral rolls to the representatives of the various political parties.

The SSRPPER is a crucial exercise in ensuring that all eligible voters are registered and that the electoral rolls are accurate and up-to-date. The public is urged to participate actively in the State Level Function for the launching of Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls and to ensure that their names are registered in the electoral rolls.
