Shillong, October 15 : Laitkor avoided the danger of being relegated by easing past Sawmer 2-0 in their Shillong Premier League 2025 match at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here this evening.
Giovanni Syiemiong (30’) and Rikmenlang Nongrum (64’) scored a goal on either side of half time for Laitkor’s third win.
Victory took them to 11 points and fifth position, a rise of three places. Sawmer, on 9 points, dropped one spot to seventh. This was Laitkor’s last match while Sawmer still have one to go.
Giovanni found himself in some free space in the run-up to the goal, though he had Jeffrey Jyrwa, the Sawmer goalkeeper, come charging at him. However, he was able to get the ball past the custodian for the opening goal.
Just before the break Laitkor had a huge shout for handball in the Sawmer box but the referee disagreed. Sawmer did not really look like scoring except in stoppage time when Khainkupar Iawphniaw forced Laitkor goalkeeper Deranius Wahlang into making a sharp save. The rebound was live but Diego Khyriem struck it wide.
Changing over, Laitkor’s Freelyson Tariang was blocked by Jeffrey in the 49th minute and Giovanni then pushed the rebound onto the crossbar.
Fifteen minutes later, though, Laitkor doubled the lead when Rikmenlang headed in a corner kick, with the ball taking a deflection off a defender on its way through.
Laitkor are now tied with Mylliem on 11 points but the former have head-to-head advantage. Mylliem, though, will play their last match of the season against Rangdajied United tomorrow at 4:30pm. For their part, Rangdajied are tied with Sawmer on 9 points, with the latter having head-to-head advantage in this case.
