SPL 2025: Malki lift themselves out of drop zone with victory over Nongrim Hills

Shillong, September 24 : Malki secured a 1-0 victory against bottom side Nongrim Hills in the Shillong Premier League 2025 at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.

Ribanshan Marpna scored the only goal of the day in the 68th minute. The victory lifted Malki out of the relegation zone and up to sixth place in the standings.

This was the last match to be played of Round 5. It had originally been scheduled for 12 September but had to be called off due to heavy rain and waterlogging of the pitch on that day.

This was also the first game of the SPL after a break of more than a week and the two sides were a little rusty to begin with. Neither side could find the mark as they struggled to convert promising chances into real attempts on goal.

These difficulties made Ribanshan’s strike all the more impressive as he took a shot from just inside the box, curling in a left-footer that settled neatly into the back of the net out of reach of Nongrim Hills’ goalkeeper Ebenson Warbah.

Going behind helped spur Nongrim Hills on in search of an equaliser but they did not manage to find one. In the end they were consigned to their fourth defeat in five outings, with a 2-2 draw with Laitkor being their only point in a tough season in the SPL.

Victory for Malki saw them jump three places in the standings. They had beaten Laitkor 1-0 in their season opener but lost three in a row before today. They are tied with Sawmer on 6 points each but have a better goal difference (-10 to -11).

Malki’s win also dropped Rangdajied United into ninth place and the relegation zone. Mylliem and Rangdajied both have 5 points but Mylliem are in front based on goal difference (-3 to -4).

Tomorrow fifth-placed Laitkor will take on Rangdajied at 3:30pm.
