Shillong, July 6: The Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Meghalaya, has invited fresh and renewal applications for scholarships under the Umbrella Scheme of Scholarships of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, for the academic year 2026–27.
According to an advertisement issued by the department, the scholarships are open to Scheduled Tribe (ST) students who are permanent residents of Meghalaya and are pursuing studies both within and outside the state.
The scholarship schemes include the Pre-Matric Scholarship for ST students studying in Classes IX and X in recognised schools or institutions registered under the National Scholarship Portal (NSP 2.0), and the Post-Matric Scholarship for ST students pursuing higher education from Class XI up to postgraduate level in recognised institutions registered with NSP 2.0.
For both schemes, the annual income of parents from all sources must not exceed ₹2.50 lakh.
Eligible students have been asked to submit their applications online only through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP 2.0) at https://scholarships.gov.in. Applicants must upload all required documents as specified on the portal, failing which their applications may be rejected. They have also been advised to regularly monitor the status of their applications and make corrections, if required, within the stipulated timeline.
As per the schedule, online registration for fresh and renewal applications opened on July 3, 2026, while the last date for student registration is November 30, 2026. Educational institutions must complete the verification of applications by December 21, 2026.
The Directorate has also urged educational institutions that are yet to register on NSP 2.0 to complete the registration process to enable their students to avail the scholarships. Institutions already registered have been asked to update course and fee details for the entire academic year on the portal.
