Shillong, September 18 : The Health & Family Welfare Department of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, and the National AYUSH Mission, hosted the State Level Arogya Fair 2025 under the theme “Prevent, promote & preserve – The AYUSH approach.”
The fair aims to popularize AYUSH treatments and strengthen traditional medicine systems including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, Homoeopathy, and Naturopathy.
Addressing the gathering, Wailadmiki Shylla, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, urged citizens to adopt healthy lifestyles and make wellness a priority. “Health is the foundation of every society. A strong and prosperous state can only be built on the pillars of physical, mental, and social well-being,” he said. The Minister called for a partnership among policymakers, health workers, and communities to combine traditional knowledge with modern medicine, creating an accessible, affordable, and sustainable healthcare system. He also encouraged youth involvement in preventive care.
Dr Joram Beda, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, highlighted the fair’s scale, calling it one of the largest AYUSH events in Meghalaya.
He underscored AYUSH’s critical role as non-communicable diseases reach alarming levels, stressing the need to include AYUSH therapies in mainstream treatment protocols.
Dr Sunita Kharmawphlang, Ayurvedic Physician, echoed this sentiment, noting that AYUSH-based preventive measures could significantly reduce the burden of such illnesses.
The fair featured specialized sessions on Ayurveda for managing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and cardiovascular health, alongside combined Ayurveda and Homeopathy discussions. Distinguished attendees included Dr J.S. Momin, Director of Health Services (MI), and Dr Bisolin Dhar, State Nodal Officer (AYUSH) and Organising Secretary of the event
