Shillong, July 25: The State-Level Subroto Mukherjee Cup Football Tournament 2026 concluded on Saturday at the SSA Stadium, Polo, after five days of competitive football that showcased Meghalaya’s emerging young talent across the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Boys, and Under-17 Girls categories. The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya.
The tournament saw North Liberty Higher Secondary School of West Jaintia Hills emerge as champions in the Under-15 Boys category after defeating Umpohliew Jingtip Higher Secondary School of East Khasi Hills 2-1 in the final. Kyrshanlang Chyrmang and Malcolm Nongbsap scored for the winners, while Meshanskhem Kharbudon netted the lone goal for the runners-up.
In the Under-17 Girls final, Little Star Higher Secondary School from Eastern West Khasi Hills defeated North Liberty Higher Secondary School of West Jaintia Hills 4-1 in a penalty shootout after the match ended goalless in regulation time to lift the state title.
The Under-17 Boys title went to O.M. Roy Memorial Higher Secondary School of East Khasi Hills, which registered a convincing 3-0 victory over Wapung Higher Secondary School of East Jaintia Hills. Deiwamut Syiem scored twice, while Chesterfield Umsong added the third goal.
The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performers. Fairland Nengnong, Joplin Thongni and Redimingson Phawa received the Best Goalkeeper awards in their respective categories, while Inibait Lamare, Jessica Myrthong, and Ebenezer Sun were named Players of the Tournament for the Under-15 Boys, Under-17 Girls, and Under-17 Boys categories respectively.
According to the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, the successful conduct of the tournament reflects the State Government’s continued emphasis on promoting grassroots football and creating opportunities for young athletes to progress to the national stage. The newly crowned champions will now represent Meghalaya in the national-level Subroto Mukherjee Cup.
