Shillong, May 24 : The 3rd North East Regatta 2025 is set to kick off from May 24th 2025, to May 29th 2025, at the Water Sports Complex, Umiam Lake, promising six days of exhilarating competitive sailing and youth development. Organised by the Umiam Sailing Club (USC) in association with Yatching Association of India (YAI), supported by Department of Tourism, Government of Meghalaya, this year’s regatta will witness sailors from across the country fiercely competing to secure victory.
Set against the scenic Umiam Lake, the event will feature a diverse range of sailing activities, catering to both novice and seasoned sailors. The inclusion of double-handed classes, such as the 420 and 29er, underscores the growing sophistication and ambition of the regional sailing community, offering a dynamic platform for skill-building and teamwork.
Notably, the regatta has brought together 9 Clubs with 79 sailors from across the country to compete in five boat classes—Optimist, ILCA 4, ILCA 6, 420, and 29er.
The regatta aims to promote water sports, foster a sense of athleticism, and develop the Umiam lake as a premier watersports destination. Spectators and participants alike can expect thrilling races, vibrant camaraderie, and a celebration of sailing in one of India’s most picturesque locations.
