Three Government Vehicles Set Ablaze in Separate Incidents; Police Launch Investigation

Shillong, June 6: Police have launched an intensive investigation after three government vehicles were set on fire in separate incidents reported during the early hours of Saturday in different parts of Shillong.

According to East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem, unidentified miscreants set ablaze a police Thar vehicle bearing registration number ML02-5516 at Kench’s Trace at around 3:00 am. The fire damaged the vehicle’s hood and seats.

In another incident around the same time, an Innova vehicle belonging to the Health Department, bearing registration number ML05 W 3399 and parked near Synod College at Lumdiengjri, was completely gutted in the fire.

A third vehicle, an SX4 bearing registration number ML05 F 6060 belonging to NEEPCO, was also set on fire while parked along the roadside at Mawlai Phudmuri. The vehicle was extensively damaged.

Police are investigating the incidents to identify those responsible and ascertain whether the three cases are linked. No arrests have been made so far.

Further investigation is underway.
