Khliehriat, August 18 : Acting on credible intelligence, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Meghalaya, in coordination with the East Jaintia Hills District Police, carried out a successful naka operation at Umkiang Police Patrol Post under Lumshnong Police Station. The operation led to the arrest of three women drug suppliers and the seizure of heroin valued at approximately ₹4 crore in the illegal market.
On the night of August 16, 2025, around 11:00 PM, authorities received information that three women were transporting narcotics from Churachandpur, Manipur to Shillong using public transport. In response, a naka was set up at Umkiang. At approximately 11:00 AM on August 17, a Maruti Suzuki S-Presso was intercepted, and the three women were apprehended.
The arrested individuals were identified as: Kimnei (33), daughter of Seipu, Dimkhothing (47), daughter of Late Thnagno and Ngaiting (40), daughter of Mangpu, All three are residents of Khongjom, Tengnoupal, Manipur.
In the presence of independent witnesses, a search was conducted under Section 50 of the NDPS Act, resulting in the recovery of 961.33 grams of heroin packed in 80 plastic soap boxes across four travel bags. Tests confirmed the substance to be heroin.
Police suspect the accused are part of an inter-state drug syndicate transporting narcotics from Manipur to Shillong and beyond to other parts of India. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway to trace backward and forward linkages.
Superintendent of Police, Vikash Kumar, IPS, urged citizens to assist law enforcement by sharing information on such activities, assuring confidentiality and rewards for credible inputs. “Help us to help you,” the police statement read.
