Mairang, August 13: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Shillong, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in association with the District Administration of Eastern West Khasi Hills, organised an Integrated Communication and Outreach Programme (ICOP) at Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School on Thursday as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.
A major highlight of the programme was a vibrant Tiranga rally, which brought together students, government officials, teachers and members of the public to promote patriotism, national unity and social responsibility ahead of Independence Day.
The rally was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner M. Diengdoh in the presence of CBC Assistant Director Gopajit Das, Principal C. War, officials from the Police Department, district administration and CBC, teachers and a large gathering of students and residents.
The rally proceeded from the school to the nearby market, with students carrying messages of Har Ghar Tiranga, unity in diversity and Nasha Mukt Bharat. Their enthusiastic participation helped take the campaign beyond the school and into the wider community.
Addressing the gathering, ADC M. Diengdoh urged citizens to actively participate in the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign by displaying the National Flag at homes, schools, offices and other prominent places. He described the Tricolour as a powerful symbol of India’s unity in diversity and called upon young people to uphold the spirit of patriotism in their daily lives.
Speaking on the Nasha Mukt Bharat campaign, Diengdoh encouraged students to make healthy and responsible choices, stressing the importance of self-discipline, positive peer influence and a supportive environment. He urged them to become ambassadors of positive change and promote a drug-free lifestyle among their families, friends and communities.
Principal C. War appreciated the initiative and highlighted the role of educational institutions in nurturing responsible, confident and socially conscious citizens. He also stressed the importance of preserving India’s rich diversity while strengthening national unity among younger generations.
Resource Person SI E. Marbaniang sensitised students about substance abuse and its impact on individuals, families and society. He discussed the risks associated with drug use, the importance of recognising early warning signs and the need to seek timely support. He encouraged students to remain vigilant, support their peers and make responsible choices to protect their health, education and future.
The programme also featured a patriotic dance competition, with students presenting energetic performances celebrating India’s unity, diversity and patriotic spirit. Art and quiz competitions further engaged students with the themes of national unity, patriotism and a drug-free India.
Winners and participants were felicitated with prizes, encouraging students to take an active role in community-oriented programmes.
The event concluded with a call for collective responsibility towards building a healthier, united and Nasha Mukt Bharat. Through the Tiranga rally and various outreach activities, students were encouraged to carry the messages of patriotism, unity and social responsibility from their school to their homes and communities.
