Shillong, March 2 : Skywatchers in Meghalaya are in for a rare celestial spectacle as a Total Lunar Eclipse will be visible on Tuesday evening, March 3, 2026. While most parts of the country will witness only the concluding moments of the eclipse, viewers in North-East India will get a clearer view of the final phase of totality.
According to details available, the eclipse falls on March 3, 2026 (12 Phalguna, 1947 Saka Era).
In Shillong, the moon will rise at 5:23 PM, with the end of totality occurring at 5:33 PM. The eclipse will conclude at 6:48 PM, giving viewers a total observation window of approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes from moonrise.
Astronomy enthusiasts are advised to find a clear vantage point facing the eastern horizon at sunset to witness the moon emerging from Earth’s shadow, often appearing with a reddish glow popularly known as the “Blood Moon.”
This will be the last total lunar eclipse visible from India until 2028, making it a must-watch event for residents and astronomy lovers across the state.
